Uniform and Detective Sergeant- Selection and Promotion
Rank: Qualified Constables or Detective Constables on promotion or Substantive Sergeants on Transfer
Applications are invited from suitable qualified Constables or Detective Constables for promotion to the rank of Sergeant. This opportunity is also open to substantive Sergeants to join the City of London Police on level transfer.
Eligible Officers must either:
Hold a valid NPPF step two legal exam
Have passed OSPRE Part 1 and Part 2

It is anticipated that all successful applicants will undertake a custody rotation within their posting. Upon selection, successful candidates will be required to remain within their new Directorate/Service area for a minimum of two years.
As a Sergeant you will carry an important role in ensuring effective daily supervision, guidance and support of officers and staff. You will be responsible for enabling the development of competence within your team whilst ensuring that organisational standards are met and objectives achieved.
This role will co-ordinate, monitor and respond where necessary, to front line policing activity to uphold the law, enable public safety and build public confidence in policing in line with legal frameworks and policy guidelines.
The selection/promotion process comprises of the following:
Candidates will be provided with a scenario and asked to prepare a written response. No preparation is required for this exercise prior to the Assessment Centre. This exercise will be marked against the CVF.
The preparation and delivery of a presentation will assess the candidates’ ability to deal with operational issues at Sergeant level.
a structured competency based interview against the Competency Values Framework.
