Principal Investigation Officer
The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) is the UK's world leading competition agency, working on cartel cases and infringements of competition and consumer law. New opportunities have arisen from the UK's exit from the EU, including building the capacity to take on bigger and more complex investigations. This presents exciting career opportunities at the CMA for criminal and civil investigators.
Investigators in the CMA’s Enforcement Directorate are the authority’s specialist investigation resource and are an integral part of the case teams primarily involved in civil investigations of cartels. Investigations teams typically consist of one Investigator and a Senior Investigator, which is lead and managed by a Principal Investigation Officer (PIO). We are currently seeking to hire two Principal Investigation Officers.
PIOs play a leading role in managing the investigation aspects of key projects, specifically, preparing for and carrying out investigations, searches, inspections, witness and suspect interviews, statement-taking, the identification and pursuit of lines of inquiry, evidence analysis and some of the administrative aspects of a CA98 investigation such as access to file. Drawing upon their experience PIOs also line manage team members providing leadership and mentoring to help with their learning and development
Applicants must have significant experience of complex criminal or civil investigations in a fraud/ commercial crime/ regulatory context, including interviewing, statement-taking, searches and inspections, this is essential to this role. Equally the successful applicant will have experience of managing, leading and mentoring team members.
Please note applicants must be willing to travel throughout the United Kingdom on official business with overnight stays as necessary (in line with the Government’s COVID guidance).
