The City of London Police is looking for a Dedicated Source Handler to work within their Counter Terrorism section. The role contributes towards investigating and detecting threats to the public and protecting them from terrorism and extremist activities.

The key function of the Dedicated Source Handler role is to collect, assess and disseminate intelligence from Covert Human Intelligence Sources (CHIS) to support National Security investigations. The candidate will be required to operate safely and covertly; ensuring the integrity and confidentiality of the team and our policing partners.  Additionally, the successful candidate will contribute towards achieving the vision, purpose and values of the City of London Police.

Role requirements

• Substantive qualified UK Police Officer.
• The post holder must have completed or have the ability to successfully complete source management related courses (this should be highlighted in application and will be tested at interview).
• Knowledge around core policing systems, with ability to learn additional specialist systems relevant to the role
• Demonstrably conducts themselves to the highest professional and ethical standards with an ability to work in a confidential/secret environment.
• Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills to successfully develop and deal with sources from a range of backgrounds.
• Aptitude to understand and mitigate risk within a covert role.

Preferential experience or expertise

• Ideally to have intelligence development or assessment background, conversant with the National Intelligence Model and the intelligence grading system.
• Be a qualified HUMINT handler and have undertaken the College of Policing handlers course, similar course at other agencies and preferably a CT handler qualification.

Expectations

• The successful candidate will be ‘on call’ a considerable amount of time on a 24/7 rota.
• All applicants will need to undergo DV vetting to fulfil this role level (DV vetting can be a lengthy and intrusive process).
• The post holder will be expected to undertake training as and when required.
• The post holder will be expected to comply with health and safety requirements.
• The role holder will be posted to the department office but may be required to work throughout the London region and within partner agency buildings.
• Normally office hours of 0800-1600 0r 09:00-17:00, whoever their should be expectation of some flexibility around these times dependent on cases and the requirement for overtime working.
