The Falkland Islands Government (FIG) is looking for new colleagues to join its existing team at the Royal Falkland Islands Police (RFIP).

THE POST

An exciting opportunity has arisen with the Royal Falkland Islands Police (RFIP) for a positive and dynamic Inspector, with recent policing experience, to join the team. This is a fixed contract for up to four years and RFIP would be keen to appoint as soon as possible.

The RFIP has a long and proud history of serving the Falkland Islands Community. Formed in 1846, the Service is undergoing dynamic change and this is your opportunity to be part of the RFIP policing team. You will meet many challenges as an Inspector; dealing with a wide variety of work, ranging from community policing, leading crime investigations, and playing an integral part in improving RFIP.

With a significant military presence on the island, you will benefit from a close working relationship with the Joint Services Police Support Unit.

RFIP’s aim is to ensure the highest professional standards of policing are in place, and to ensure that we serve and protect our community to the best of our ability.          

As an RFIP Inspector you will be motivated and possess a broad spectrum of policing experience. You will be responsible for leading a team of three sergeants and seventeen constables on policing the islands 24/7, 365 days a year. You will play a key role in policy development and the continued professionalisation of RFIP. You will be answerable to the Chief of Police and will be expected to stand in as chief of police in their absence.

THE PERSON

The successful candidate will:

• Candidates must have a minimum of 5 years’ experience as a substantive police sergeant with evidence of having performed the role of acting/temporary inspector for at least 6 months in the previous 5 years or substantive inspector or above within the last five years (military or civilian)
• Be qualified as a Tactical Firearms Commander or be willing to undertake training to perform the role of TFC.
• Experience of managing operations successfully.
• Have Community Policing supervisory experience.
• Be able to work both on their own initiative and as a member of a disciplined team
• Have strong leadership and communication skills, both written and verbal
• Possess good interpersonal skills
• Hold a grade C or above in GCSE English and Maths (or equivalent)

The Package

• Fixed Term Contract, up to 4 years.
• Starting Salary £37,725 - £47,000 per annum (more may be available for an exceptional candidate). In addition, the post also attracts other payments, such as a shift allowance and an on call allowance, which are in addition to the salary.
• Eligibility for a 25% gratuity, paid upon successful completion of the contract
• 30 days annual leave, plus government and public holidays (totalling 41 days leave)
• Relocation allowance, to help with moving costs.
• Flights package for you and recognised dependents at the beginning and end of contract, and additional annual return flights contingent on the duration of the contract
• Government housing for rent at a subsidised rate and a starter pack to help you settle in.
