Police Adviser, Crime & Counter Terrorism – Chief Inspector or Inspector (substantive rank)
The Centre for Applied Science & Technology (CAST) protects the public by providing high quality, impartial advice, innovative solutions and frontline support to all parts of the Home Office, and on occasion to other government departments.
This post is offered as a 2 year secondment.
The Police Adviser team consists of one Senior Police Adviser (SPA) and three Police Advisers. Reporting to the SPA, you will provide a vital link between the law enforcement community and CAST by advising on strategic and operational policing requirements with regard to criminal investigations, serious & organised crime investigations, counter terrorism related investigations and the associated overt and covert policing activities.
You will help steer the future work of CAST, promoting the interests of the police service and others internally and representing CAST externally at all levels. You will develop and leverage close working relationships with senior policing bodies and their representatives, overseas law enforcement agencies and central government, including the National Crime Agency, OSCT, UK Border Force and Immigration Enforcement, as well as stakeholders within industry and academia.
This post can be based at either Sandridge near St Albans, Hertfordshire or Langhurst, near Horsham, Sussex. However, there will be a need for frequent attendance at Sandridge, as well as at various London venues including the Home Office at 2 Marsham Street.
Applications are invited from serving police officers at substantive rank of Inspector or Chief Inspector, provided they have obtained their Chief Officer’s written endorsement for both the application and secondment if successful.

Please note that CAST is expected to integrate with Dstl during 2018 and to be relocated to Porton Down (Wiltshire) in 2019–2020.
